My Favorite Story
As I reflect over our short story unit, my favorite short story was "The Sniper". Primarily, I was drawn to this story because of its setting. I enjoyed studying the historical background of the Irish Civil War and deepening my understanding of the Republican and Free State ideals. Further, with an improved understanding of the historical time period, I found that I had a much deeper appreciation for the character of the Sniper. I began to understand how his ideals allowed him to commit acts that I would otherwise deem acceptable, like callously killing the old woman in the street. I was completely unprepared for the story's resolution, but I thought this was an extremely effective way for O'Flaherty to communicate theme. Civil war certainly can tear families apart.
wow My faveorite story was The Sniper! And I liked about the historical content too!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Young Min. My favorite story was also The Sniper. I liked the theme too. And I thought how O'Flaherty put history into the story was intersting as well.
ReplyDelete"The Sniper" was truly an amazing story with a extreme dramatic ending to follow.
ReplyDeleteLiam's message of his view on the conflict was clearly transcribed into this fantastic masterpiece "The Sniper".
I Really liked the sniper too, but unlike everyone who commented my favourite story would have to be Lamb to the Slaughter, I like the idea on how she had to find her identity again. :)
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree with Riana. I liked Lamb to the slaughter too. I liked the conflict in the story, that's what made the story interesting.
ReplyDeleteLamb to the slaughter was my favorite story. The plot was exciting and the characters were relatable. This made the story more fun to read and more enjoyable.
ReplyDeleteUnlike you guys I enjoyed Thank you Maam mainly becuase of Luella's characterization, that was what brought me into the story
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with how you said the theme of The Sniper was that civil wars tears apart families. I think O'Flaherty did a great job of conveying that message. The ending was definitely unexpected and when I first read the story, it left me with how tragic the civil war was.
ReplyDeleteThe Sniper was a good story with a dramatic ending but my most favorite short story is Lamb To The Slaughter. Lamb To The Slaughter has alot of unthinkable consequences its like how the perfect wife who is all wrapped up in her husband suddenly kills him.
ReplyDeleteThe Sniper was my favorite story because of how he put his own experience into it so he could relate to it. It also showed a lot of good history and was interesting to learn about, also when i read the sniper first I didn't understand it aswell as after i had studied the historical back round.
ReplyDeleteThe sniper was a great story showing how war can split families but my favorite story was "Lamb to the Slaughter" for I love the main theme which was finding her identity which was quite interesting (and fun) to read. :)
